Macaron Day in Budapest!

The first time that I tasted a macaron was a few months ago, in Budapest. The taste was very good! Since that day you can say that I am a ‘’macaron lover’. It will come as no surprise for you that I love the fact that there is ‘’ Macaron day’’ in Budapest. The Macaron Day in Budapest is inspired by the Jour du Macaron held in Paris and the Macaron Day in New York.  It is celebrated on March 20.

Macaron DayDuring the Hungarian Macaron Day there are activities arranged in Akvárium Club (Erszébet Ter).  Visitors will have a chance to taste and learn how to bake macarons. The program starts at 3 pm and finishes at 9pm. On 3 pm the Macaron World opens up for visitors! Many patisseries are present as well as other exhibitors. You can buy macarons but besides that you can also buy macaron parfums, macaron accessories, macaron soaps, macaron teas and macaron books. From 3.15 pm till 5 pm there are games for children and there will be a musical matinée show from the Lycee francais de Budapest. You can also make your own macarons and join in with their activities including a macaron taste recognition test. After that a speech will be held and the jury will be introduced. At 17.30 the exhibitors will be introduced and there will be live onstage conversations. Then the spotlight is on the ‘’ gastro-bloggers’’ who make macarons. The event ends with announcing The Macaron Day prize winners. It can be you maybe?

What is a Macaron?  A macaron is a round crunchy pastry made with egg whites, sugar and colour additives. They are available in a wide variety of flavours and are filled with jam, ganache or butter cream. If you did not know what a macaron is or you had heard about it but not tasted yet, I highly recommend you the taste one (or more) during this day! And macaron lovers, go to this lovely event or go to your favourite bakery and treat yourself to an assortment of macarons!

I always eat them at La Delizia, a cosy sweets boutique. You can also buy them here: Villa Bagatelle, La Praline, Centrál Kávéház, Four Seasons, Party Macaron, Sarki Füszeres, Gerbeaud, Gundel Cukrászda, à table!, SUGAR!, Paris Budapest Restaurant & Bar, Rosinante Hotel and Cinnamon Roll. These patisseries will also be present at Akvárium.

Advance tickets are HUF 1,500 and can be bought at Akvárium. Tickets will also be available on the door for HUF 2,000.
