I love historical Budapest pictures and one of the years changing the look of Budapest was 1944-1945. The battles fought between the allies and the Germans changed Budapest in many ways, and one of the results was that the Germans blew up all Budapest bridges.
Two days ago I saw a tweet by Zsolt about this image on Twitter. The original image comes from inmate and was posted on Tumblr. Just take a look at the picture and you will understand why I like it a lot!
Budapest in 1945 – amazing picture
The picture was taken from the Castle of Buda. As you watch it you can easily see the damage that was made to the Chain Bridge by the Germans and also the rest of the buildings on both the Pest and the Buda side. St. Stephens Basilica looks nice dominating the Pest landscape in the background and in front of it the Gresham Palace (Four Seasons hotel today).
